From lake to ghost town.
In 2022 the Vagli lake will be emptied and will show the ruins of the ghost village.
Vagli lake is located in Vagli di sotto in Garfagnana in the province of Lucca.
The lake is of artificial origin originated following the costruction of the hydroelectric dam.
The small village of the factories of Careggine was submerged by the construction of the lake.
Village was humble and mainly blacksmiths lived there.
Lake Vagli is always a magical place were you can take a break from the chaos of the coast, it has clear and deep waters immersed in a narrow gorge covered with greenery, but on the occasions when the lake is emptied for maintenance, the spectacle is breathtaking.
From the bed of the lake emerge the ruins of the village where you can walk in a surreal atmosphere.
The emptying of the lake was scheduled for 2021 but for the due Covid-19 it will be postponed to 2022.
During the last emptying in 1994 there were more than a million visitators, the mayor therefore decided to postpone the eventy for safety reasons.
The lake remains empty for a few month.
