The lung of Versilia – La Versiliana
The Pinewood
The Versiliana pine forest is the real lung of Pietrasanta.
It has an area of 800,000 square meters.
It is located right in the street adjacent to the B&B Miami Beach just
two minutes by bike.
It offers refreshment on the hottest days with its tall pines that overlook the area and its baby
watercourse that runs through the entire pine forest, inhabited by geese and ducks.
The pine forest is full of things to discover: from the children’s play area with pools of balls, the classic
carousel
and the games room, the magnificent open-air theater and the historic villas within the park.
The theater is home to important events throughout the year and has seen great artists perform on its
stage.
The pine forest is teeming with living species, from plants to animals with a wide variety of butterflies.
In the area that runs along Viale Apua, tables are available for enjoying a fantastic picnic
also accompanied by our animal friend.
History
The pine forest represents a fragment of the original ancient forest.
The first safeguard interventions date back to the 300 ‘.
In the 19th century, many nobles began to build their beloved summer residences, among which we
remember, in the 900 ‘, Gabriele D’annunzio who loved riding on horseback in the cool paths of the park.
It is thought that when Gabriele D’Annunzio wrote “The rain in the Pineto” he was walking
right in the historic Versiliana.
In 1951, due to speculation, several building permits were sold which put the building at risk
protection of the territory.
In 1970 it was regulated as a public green area and since then it refreshes our summer days.
Since then, the La Versiliana Festival and numerous other events have been organized every year.
The risk of destruction – pine forest
In the night between 4 and 5 March a strong wind hit the whole Versilia with gusts of
wind that exceeded 200 km / h causing a lot of damage throughout the territory.
La Versiliana, our green lung, was hit the hardest, the trees felled
from the wind they were innumerable and since that day the pine forest has changed its face.
The felled trees have been replanted but it will take many years for the shadow to reign supreme.
Fortunately, the interior of the pine forest has suffered less damage.
This event is remembered by a monument by Dario Franceschini placed in the main part
hit.
