The Museum of Sacred Art is located in Camaiore inside a beautiful building built in

17th century located on the Via Francigena that connected the ancient city of Luni with the city of

Lucca.

The museum was inaugurated on 9 June 1934 with the purpose of preserving and conserving from

probable thefts of the great Camaioresi works.

Initially the museum mainly contained furnishings, paintings, vestments, sacred furnishings

coming from the neighboring churches in the area.

Over time, the museum’s collection of sacred art was considerably enriched becoming a series of

important exhibitions of and today collects some of the most important and famous local works.

The opening hours are as follows:

Winter: Tuesday-Thursday 15.00-17.30 and Saturday 15.30-18.00

Summer: Tuesday and Thursday 17.00-18.00 and Saturday 16.00-18.30

Spring: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 16.00-18.30

The works – Museum of sacred art

The museum is divided into three rooms that present important historical artifacts such as liturgical

wallpapers, precious objects of orifices, paintings and sculptures, among which the well-known Virgin

Annunciata by Matteo is emphasized Civitali, preserved in excellent condition mainly thanks to the talent

in the restoration that brought it back to initial conditions.

Other illustrious works are the majestic altarpiece with the Madonna and the child among the saints that

comes from the church of S. Maria Albiano which is thought to have been painted by Vincenzo Frediani

one of the most illustrious painters from Lucca of the late fifteenth century.
